My foil or spot UV is peeling or won't stick — how do I fix the adhesion?
Hot or cold foil flakes, scratches off, or won't transfer cleanly, or the spot UV varnish beads up, fails to anchor, and peels — usually over heavy ink or coated areas. Most often caused by ink or coa…
My folding cartons are cracking on the outside of the fold at the crease — how do I stop it?
The outer paper or liner splits or cracks along the crease when the carton is folded, especially on heavy or coated board and on folds that run across the grain. Most often caused by crease too shallo…
My laminate is bubbling or peeling off the print — how do I get proper adhesion?
Air bubbles, blisters, or a silvery haze appear between the film and the sheet, or the laminate lifts at the edges and delaminates later — most often over heavy ink coverage or coated stocks. Most oft…
My cutting table is leaving ragged, frayed, or incomplete cuts — is it the blade?
Cut edges come out frayed, fuzzy, or ragged, the knife doesn't sever the material fully in places so parts stay attached, or the material drags and tears instead of cutting cleanly. Most often caused …
My cutting table's registration camera can't find or misreads the print marks
The flatbed cutter's optical camera fails to locate the printed register marks, reports 'mark not found,' or reads them in the wrong place — so the cut ends up offset from the printed graphic even tho…
My die-cut lines don't line up with the printed image — how do I fix registration drift?
The cut, crease, and window outlines are shifting off the printed graphic — often fine at the start of the run then drifting as it continues, or worse toward the edges of large sheets. Most often caus…
The printhead is hitting or scraping the board on my UV flatbed and leaving streaks and scratches, how do I stop head strikes?
On rigid or board jobs the carriage strikes or drags across the media, leaving dark smear streaks or gouges and sometimes grinding or knocking sounds. Warped or lifted corners catch the head, and it m…
Colors don't match between panels of a tiled job or between reprints, how do I get consistent color?
Adjacent panels of a tiled wall or graphic show a visible color or tone step where they meet, or a reprint doesn't match the original run. The same file can look different day to day, machine to machi…
The ink scratches off, smears, or won't stay cured on vinyl, film, textile, or rigid board, how do I get proper adhesion?
Cured or dried ink rubs, scratches, cracks, or peels off, or the ink beads up and won't wet out on the surface. UV prints feel tacky when undercured or crack and flake when the sheet flexes if overcur…
My banner or vinyl skews and wanders to one side during long roll-to-roll runs, how do I fix the media feed?
Over a long roll run the media drifts sideways, the image walks off-center or prints crooked, and wrinkles or creases appear. The take-up roll may telescope, with the edges shifting outward like a col…
Missing nozzles and streaking after the printer sat idle overnight or over the weekend, how do I recover the jets?
After idle time the nozzle check shows gaps or dropouts and prints come out with white streaks or missing colors. The first jobs of the day look worse than later ones as the head warms up and clears. …
Why do I get horizontal banding or streaks across large solid color areas on my wide format prints?
Evenly or unevenly spaced light or dark stripes run across the print, most visible in large solid fills, gradients, and mid-tones. The image looks striped or ribbed instead of smooth. Most often cause…
Image is imaged in the wrong position / my plates won't register on press (punch and clamp alignment)
The image is imaged in the wrong place on the plate or comes out skewed/shifted, so plates don't register color-to-color on press or the image sits off relative to the punch/gripper edge. Most often c…
Straight lines, streaks, or banding across the plate, or faint/missing dots in patches
Straight lines, streaks, or repeating bands run across the imaged plate, or dots come out faint/missing in patches. On the press sheet this shows as visible banding or tonal steps. Most often caused b…
My CTP plates keep getting scratched or scuffed during imaging and handling
Fine scratches, scuffs, or drag marks appear on plates — showing up as unwanted lines that take ink on press or as tracks where the coating is removed. They often repeat in the same position from plat…
Plates come out scummy or with a weak, blinding image — is it my processor chemistry?
Non-image (background) areas don't clear and pick up ink/scum on press, or the whole image looks weak, blinded, and washes out light. Results often get progressively worse through the day or after the…
Dots on my imaged plate don't match the file — highlights dropping out or shadows plugging (dot gain/loss)
The dot percentages measured on the finished plate (or the resulting press sheet) don't match the file — highlight dots fall off or midtones/shadows plug and read heavier. Color looks off and may drif…
Why does my ink keep drying in the mesh and clogging the screen during long runs?
Detail and fine lines start dropping out or printing broken mid-run, ink deposit becomes patchy, and the mesh open areas visibly fill or crust with dried ink, forcing frequent stops to wipe or wash th…
Why is my plastisol print bleeding or changing color on polyester garments?
On polyester or poly-blend garments, the printed ink discolors, taking on the garment's color, often turning pink/off-tone. The bleed frequently appears hours or days after curing, not straight out of…
Why do my colors keep drifting out of registration on multi-color jobs?
Colors that lined up at setup gradually shift relative to each other during the run, leaving gaps, overlaps, or fuzzy overlaps between layers. Registration may be fine on the first few pulls and creep…
Why is there a ghost image or haze left in my mesh after I reclaim the screen?
After reclaiming and removing the emulsion, a faint shadow of the previous image or an overall stain remains in the mesh. The screen looks clean but a residual pattern is visible when held to light. M…
Why does my stencil have pinholes and start breaking down partway through a run?
Tiny unwanted dots of ink print in areas that should be blocked (pinholes), and/or the emulsion becomes tacky, soft, and starts washing or wearing away mid-run so the image edges deteriorate and ink b…
Why are my screens losing tension and prints coming out blurry or shifting?
Prints look soft, blurry, or smeared, ink shears or drags during the stroke, and image registration wanders across a run even though nothing on the press was changed. A tension meter reads noticeably …
My ink keeps skinning and drying on the plate and anilox during the run - how do I control drying?
Ink skins over or dries on the plate face and in the anilox cells during printing, causing streaky or filling-in print, dropping density, and forcing frequent stops to clean. It often gets worse in co…
I'm getting evenly-spaced light-and-dark bars across the web - what's causing this banding?
Alternating light and dark bands run across the web at regular, repeating intervals (also called gear marks, chatter, or banding), usually perpendicular to the web direction. It is most visible in sol…
Faint repeated 'ghost' images are showing up in my solid areas - how do I stop ghosting?
A faint duplicate or shadow of part of the image appears within large solid areas, often lighter than the surrounding solid. It is most noticeable in darker colors and tends to worsen as press speed i…
Color is coming out weak and washed-out even with plenty of ink - is my anilox plugged?
Ink density and color strength drop off even though the ink supply is fine, and the print looks pale or washed out. There may be streaks or uneven density across the roll face where cells are unevenly…
My colors won't stay in register - how do I fix misregistration on the flexo press?
Colors do not line up on the printed image, leaving blurred edges, white gaps, or fuzzy trap between separations. The misregister may be constant across the run or wander/drift as the press runs. Most…
My solid ink areas have tiny unprinted specks (pinholes) - how do I get full coverage?
Solid color blocks show scattered tiny unprinted specks or voids that look like pinholes, giving a weak, non-uniform density. The effect is most obvious across large solids, especially on films and co…
Why are my highlight dots plugging up and filling in on press?
The lightest highlight dots close up, merge, or print darker and fuzzier than the proof, so vignettes and fades lose their smooth transition and detail. Small tonal areas look muddy and gained-up comp…
Colors won't stay in register station-to-station (register drift / web tension problems)
Color-to-color register wanders by fractions of a millimeter and will not hold steady, showing as fuzzy edges, color fringing, or drifting register marks — often worsening with speed changes, splices,…
Printed film smells of solvent or fails residual-solvent limits (retained solvent / odor)
The finished, wound, or laminated web has a noticeable solvent smell, and residual-solvent testing comes back above spec — a real food-safety and product-taint risk for packaging. Most often caused by…
Heavy solids look mottled with tiny white pinholes (snowflaking / poor ink transfer)
Large solid ink areas print with a scattering of tiny unprinted white specks or a snowflake/orange-peel texture, and solids look weak or uneven instead of dense and smooth. Most often caused by ink dr…
Random unprinted specks, pinholes, and ringed spots scattered in the print (skips / hickies)
Small unprinted dots or 'skips' appear randomly, giving solids and tones a speckled look. Some spots show a doughnut/ring of ink around a bare center where a contaminant particle sat. Most often cause…
The cylinder is getting scored and blades wear out fast — a permanent line in the print
A permanent scratch or groove appears on the chrome and prints as a fixed line that cleaning and new blades will not remove. Blades also wear out or fail unusually fast. Most often caused by hard fore…
Getting fine lines or streaks running in the web direction (doctor blade lines / chatter)
Thin continuous streaks, 'railroad tracks,' or comet-tail lines run in the direction of web travel, sometimes with a repeating drag mark. On heavy solids the blade may also buzz or vibrate, leaving a …
Cells are plugging with dried ink — missing dots and weak, patchy print in the same spots
Fine highlight and mid-tone areas print weak, broken, or missing entirely, often repeating around the cylinder's circumference. Wiping the cylinder face temporarily restores the print, then it fades a…
The color shifts from the start to the end of a long roll run — how do I keep color consistent across the whole roll?
Color gradually drifts over a long run so the first labels do not match the last — density or hue wanders, solids lighten, or gray balance shifts over one to two hours of continuous printing. Most oft…
The fuser is curling my labels and squeezing out adhesive — why does my label stock distort or jam in the fuser?
Labels curl, cockle, or shrink after the fuser, adhesive oozes at the edges or die cuts, and the liner may delaminate or the label tunnel/lift. In bad cases the stock wraps and jams in the fuser, leav…
My printed labels are sticking together and misfeeding off the roll — is this a static problem?
Labels cling or block to each other, to the liner, or to rollers so they lift or jam coming off the roll; the web misfeeds or skews, dust and lint are pulled onto the surface causing spots, and operat…
My labels come off the roll wrinkled and the print keeps wandering across the web — how do I fix web tension and tracking?
Labels show wrinkles, creases, or diagonal/machine-direction lines, and the image or die registration drifts side to side across the web during the run. On thin film the web may weave, bag, or telesco…
Why does the toner scratch or flake off my film/synthetic label stock?
Printed toner rubs, scuffs, or flakes off the label face when handled, folded, or scratched with a fingernail, and the problem is far worse on filmic/synthetic stock than on paper. Heavy solids show e…
Why does my waste matrix keep breaking or labels lift with the matrix during inline die-cutting?
The waste-matrix skeleton snaps or ladders and stops the press, or die-cut labels pull off the liner and fly away with the matrix instead of staying on the web. Either failure forces frequent stops an…
Why are my film labels sticking together, mis-feeding, or clinging to the press from static?
Filmic labels and liner cling to each other or to machine parts, mis-feed or lift at the die and rewind, and attract dust, sometimes giving the operator small shocks. Blocking makes labels hard to sep…
Why does the ink rub off or fail adhesion on my filmic/synthetic label stock?
Printed ink scratches, smears, or rubs off filmic/synthetic stock (PP, PE, PET, BOPP), fails a tape or rub test, or lifts under lamination even though it appears cured. Paper stock in the same shop pr…
Why does my die-cut drift out of register with the printed image partway through the run?
The die-cut outline sits centered on the print at the start of the job but gradually shifts relative to the printed image as the run continues, often after 20-30 minutes. Labels end up cut off-center …
Why is adhesive oozing out of my die-cut label edges and gumming up the press?
A sticky halo of adhesive appears around the die-cut edge of the labels, and labels re-bond to the waste matrix or to each other. Tacky residue builds up on the die and rollers and finished rolls feel…
Why does my label web wrinkle and wander off track through the press?
The roll-fed web develops diagonal creases or wrinkles as it runs and/or drifts side to side so the print and die-cut wander out of their lane. Wrinkles can print through as ink voids, throw off regis…
Sheets are double-feeding, jamming, or clinging from static — how do I fix inkjet feed and media-handling problems?
The feeder picks two or more sheets at once (double/multi-feed), sheets skew, mis-feed, or jam, or they cling to each other and the transport from static — causing stoppages, registration errors, or e…
Prints come out tacky, set off in the stack, or crack when folded — how do I fix drying/curing?
Fresh prints feel tacky or smear, ink transfers (sets off) onto the back of the next sheet in the stacker or rewind, and folded or creased areas crack and flake. On UV systems the ink may stay wet/tac…
Colors are out of register or the back doesn't line up with the front — how do I fix inkjet misregistration?
Color separations don't line up (edge fringing/halos, blurry-looking text), or on duplex work the back-side image is shifted relative to the front. The shift may be constant or may drift and grow acro…
Text and edges look fuzzy and colors mottle on uncoated paper — how do I stop ink bleed and feathering?
Fine text and image edges look fuzzy or ragged and ink spreads along the paper fibers (feathering/wicking), while solids and mid-tones look blotchy or uneven (mottle) on absorbent, uncoated stock. Mos…
The printhead is smearing ink or scraping the paper — how do I prevent and recover from a head strike/crash?
Ink smears in the media-travel direction, the sheet or web shows scuff/scrape marks or jams at the print zone, and the press may flag a head-strike/collision error. Afterward, nozzles are frequently m…
Repeating light and dark bands across my inkjet output — what causes banding and how do I fix it?
Regular light or dark bands, or a repeating stripe pattern, appear across the output — most visible in solids, gradients, and mid-tones — rather than a single sharp white line. Most often caused by pr…
Thin white lines running in the print direction — how do I clear clogged or missing nozzles?
One or more consistent hairline white streaks run parallel to the paper/web travel direction, in a single color or all colors, and they stay in the same place sheet to sheet. Most often caused by drie…
Sheets come out curled or full of static and keep jamming after the fuser — how do I stop it?
Sheets exit curled (usually toward the heated side), cling together or to rollers from static, and jam in the fuser/exit/duplex path or misfeed at the registration rollers, most often in very humid or…
Colors are misregistered or front-to-back alignment drifts during a run — how do I correct it?
Color channels do not line up (fuzzy edges, color fringing on fine text and lines), or the image shifts front-to-back on duplex work, and the alignment can drift over a long run or when the stock chan…
Vertical streaks or white lines run down the length of my prints — what's causing them?
Continuous lines run in the paper-travel direction: either dark or colored streaks, or white voids/scratches where toner is missing. On a color press the line is often present in only one color channe…
A faint second copy of the image appears further down the page (offset/ghosting) — why?
A faint, repeated echo of text or graphics appears further down the same sheet, toner may transfer to the back of the following sheet, and heavy coats can look greasy or show blistering. Most often ca…
Toner scratches, flakes, or rubs off my coated or synthetic stock — how do I fix adhesion?
The image looks fine on the press but toner cracks, flakes, or wipes off when the sheet is folded, scratched, or rubbed, especially in heavy solids and on coated, laminated, or synthetic substrates. M…
The same spot or mark repeats at a regular interval down every page — how do I find which part is failing?
An identical dot, smudge, line segment, or void appears at a fixed, repeating distance on every sheet, always the same color and shape, while the rest of the image is clean. Most often caused by a wor…
Why do I see horizontal light-and-dark bands (banding) running across my prints?
Faint horizontal bands or stripes of uneven density run across the sheet, perpendicular to the paper-travel direction, most visible in flat tints, gradients, and large solids. The bands are often even…
Why does my color keep drifting during an offset run — density and dot gain shift from start to finish?
Solid ink density and color/gray balance wander over the course of the run — colors go heavy or weak, or dot gain climbs — so early sheets do not match later ones even without touching the ink keys. M…
Why is material piling up on my offset blanket — ink or paper coating building up so print quality drops during the run?
Ink or white paper coating and fiber accumulates on the blanket in image or non-image areas, causing progressively weaker, blurry, or mottled print until the press is stopped and the blanket is washed…
Why won't my colors register — the color-to-color or front-to-back registration keeps drifting off on the offset press?
Colors do not overlay correctly, showing fringing, blur, or halos on multi-color images and text; the misfit may be consistent gripper-to-tail or side-to-side, or wander sheet to sheet during the run.…
Why is ink setting off — the back of my printed sheets is picking up ink from the sheet below in the delivery pile?
Wet ink transfers onto the back of the next sheet in the stack, leaving a faint mirror smudge of the image; it is worst on heavy solids and coated stock and can smear when the pile is handled. Most of…
What causes hickies (donut-shaped spots) on my offset print and how do I get rid of them?
Small circular spots appear randomly in solids — a printed or unprinted speck surrounded by a white halo, like a donut or bullseye — and the same spots keep recurring until the particle is removed. Mo…
Why does my offset print show ghosting — a faint repeat or shadow of an image inside solid areas?
A faint duplicate, shadow, or stencil of a heavy image element appears within a downstream solid or tint, often repeating at a spacing equal to the ink form-roller circumference. Most often caused by …
Why is my offset press scumming — ink showing up in the non-image (blank) areas of the sheet?
Ink appears as a dirty tint, film, or smudge in areas that should print clean and white, and it typically gets worse as the run continues or the press warms up. Most often caused by ink/water balance …
