Troubleshooting guide
Why are my highlight dots plugging up and filling in on press?
Posted by the SuperPrinters team · 7/26/2026
The lightest highlight dots close up, merge, or print darker and fuzzier than the proof, so vignettes and fades lose their smooth transition and detail. Small tonal areas look muddy and gained-up compared to the file. Most often caused by excessive impression pressure between the plate and the substrate (over-impression instead of a light kiss), among other possible causes — a full step-by-step diagnostic and fix follows below.
