Zipcon White Paper Coins 'Agentic Print' as AI Agents Become the Print Industry's Next Customer
Posted by the SuperPrinters team · 7/23/2026
A 34-page white paper by Bernd Zipper of zipcon consulting introduces the term 'Agentic Print' to describe a closed loop in which AI agents autonomously procure and deploy print products on behalf of customers, enabled by emerging open commerce protocols such as Google's Universal Commerce Protocol. The paper argues that print must become part of general communication infrastructure—orderable on demand like electricity—or risk being invisible to agent-driven purchasing systems that only see suppliers with machine-readable capability manifests. Industry associations including IOP, BVDM, Intergraf, the Ghent Workgroup, CIP4, and PRINTING United Alliance are collaborating on a dedicated print vertical (dev.ucp.print) within UCP, with a formal Enhancement Proposal submission planned for Q4 2026. The paper frames agent-readiness as the decisive competitive factor, warning that print providers storing their offerings in PDF price lists and spreadsheets effectively have no offering in the agentic channel.
