New India Foundation has announced its third cohort of Translation Fellows, who will each receive a six-month grant of Rs 6 lakh to translate landmark non-fiction works into English. The 2026 fellows include Jayasree Kalathil and Mini Chandran translating Malayalam works by C.K. Janu and Thoppil Bhasi, Murali Ranganathan translating Rahul Sankrityayan's Hindi travelogue, and Shefali Jha translating Ibrahim Jalis's Urdu political journalism. The fellowship, part of NIF's broader publishing initiatives, aims to bring important regional-language texts to wider English-reading audiences.
