Independent News Creators Gain Ground but Trust in News Hits Record Low
Shared with SuperPrinters · 7/23/2026 · Source: indianprinterpublisher.com
A Reuters report reveals that nearly half of global news consumers now turn to independent creators for information, drawn by their relatable and unfiltered approach compared to legacy outlets constrained by advertising dependencies and editorial pressures. However, the rise of the creator economy has also fueled misinformation, contributing to overall news trust falling to its lowest recorded level of 37% across 48 markets. The tension between mainstream and independent media is playing out sharply in India, where coverage gaps around issues like ethanol safety and public protests have highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of both sides.
