India's residential rooftop solar programme has reached a significant milestone, with over 50 lakh households now benefiting from the scheme and daily installations tripling to more than 16,000 by July 2026. The initiative has added over 14.65 GW of solar capacity and distributed more than INR 28,000 crore in government subsidies, with 19 lakh households now receiving zero electricity bills. Complementing the deployment push, India is also investing heavily in domestic clean energy manufacturing through production-linked incentives for solar modules and electric vehicles, aiming to reduce reliance on imported technology as it pursues its 500 GW non-fossil power target by 2030.
