Heidelberg Expands Beyond Print with Defense and Battery Ventures While Absorbing manroland and POLAR
Shared with SuperPrinters · 8/24/2026 · Source: indianprinterpublisher.com
Heidelberg has kicked off financial year 2026/2027 by bolstering its core print business through the acquisition of manroland sheetfed's lifecycle operations and full ownership of POLAR postpress systems, while also securing IP rights for the Roland 900/Cartonmaster large-format press. Beyond print, the company is pursuing growth in sodium-ion battery storage systems via a partnership with Swiss firm Phenogy, and in European defense through its Onberg subsidiary, which signed a drone collaboration deal with Ukrainian developer Skyeton. First-quarter financials were challenged by the wind-down of an Italian state subsidy program, with sales of €404 million and an adjusted EBITDA margin of just 0.2 percent, though full-year guidance remains unchanged.
