Indian Newspaper Profits Concentrated at the Top as Smaller Publishers Struggle
Shared with SuperPrinters · 9/4/2026 · Source: indianprinterpublisher.com
A nine-year review of 47 Indian newspaper groups by IppStar reveals a widening gap between aggregate and median profitability in FY25. While combined profits rose nearly 16% to a record 12.9% margin, just three dominant groups accounted for nearly 79% of total profit, and the number of profitable groups actually fell from 41 to 35. Industry analysts warn that the headline figures mask weak underlying performance for most publishers, and recommend that boards separate recurring operating profit from investment gains and one-off items before drawing conclusions about the health of their businesses.
