Indian Newspaper Groups Still 12% Below Pre-Pandemic Revenue Despite Years of Recovery
Shared with SuperPrinters · 8/31/2026 · Source: indianprinterpublisher.com
A new IppStar analysis of 47 Indian newspaper groups shows that while the industry has largely bounced back from the devastating 41% revenue collapse of FY2020-21, aggregate revenues remain nearly 12% below their FY2018-19 peak. Only 15 of the 47 groups have fully recovered their pre-pandemic revenue base, and growth has now reversed, with revenues slipping roughly 3% in FY2024-25. The findings signal a shift from recovery mode to a tougher consolidation phase, with publishers urged to focus on profitability per edition, reader revenue, and cross-channel advertising rather than chasing old circulation volumes.
