Global Softwood Supply Squeeze Looms as Demand Outpaces Forest Growth

Shared with SuperPrinters · 9/14/2026 · Source: indianprinterpublisher.com
Global softwood roundwood supply has remained largely flat since 2000 and is projected to grow only 0.5% annually through 2035, while demand from construction, packaging, and biomass continues to accelerate. North American supply has dropped nearly 20% over that period, and key growing regions face significant constraints — from Europe's sustainability limits to Russia's infrastructure and political barriers. The US South holds the greatest expansion potential, but labor shortages and investment hurdles will slow progress, pointing to a tightening global supply-demand balance and upward pressure on softwood log prices.
